Previous Film Clubs

Taare Zameen Par (12th August 2020)

To celebrate South Asian Heritage Month, we presented a panel discussion on Taare Zameen Par at our second film club evening.

Taare Zameen Par (Like Stars on Earth) is a well-known Hindi language film exploring the family and school life of an eight-year old boy. It became critically acclaimed not only for its moving story but for the depiction and open conversation of dyslexia.

We had an incredible guest panel and we discussed issues such as dyslexia and the cycle of change; cultural identity in psychiatry and the the role of film in medical education.

Guest Panel:

Dr Sunil Khushalani (Consultant Psychiatrist, Sheppard Pratt Hospital, Baltimore)

Dr Khizar Khan (Consultant Psychiatrist, Sheppard Pratt Hospital, Baltimore)

Dr Roshelle Ramkisson (Consultant Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist, Pennine Care NHS Foundation Trust, Greater Manchester)

Silver Linings Playbook (3rd June 2020)

For AUTP's first Psychiatry Film Club, we took a closer look at the mental health themes in the film "Silver Linings Playbook". With an excellent panel of speakers, the event was an exciting evening discussing the interface between arts and mental health.

Guest panel:

Professor Erminia Colucci (Psychologist, ethnographic documentary film maker and established research and teacher-trainer)
